Thank you to Lauren Golden starting the day with this quote: “The true delight is in the finding out, rather than in the knowing.” — Isaac Asimov
This made me think of the quote attributed to Socrates: “The unexamined life is not worth living.”
Get a sense of who Socrates is on Philosophize this! (great weekend piece) Socrates: start at 15:00 min: https://www.philosophizethis.org/podcast/socrates?rq=socrates
- Discussion, questioning and argument – the Socratic method
- “When I do not know, neither do I think I know …”
- Socrates would question everyone – this did not make him many friends …
Consider this:
- Inductive argument is based on the Socratic method – if the premises are true then it is unlikely the conclusion is false
- The Socratic Method is something many of us researchers pride ourselves on … consider that Socrates annoyed the towns people so much with his questioning that they put him to death! (BTW: I only found this out after using the Socratic Method for 30 years … some things they just don’t teach you in school )
